Target to Source Data Mapping
It is incredibly important to confirm for each object where each target field will be sourced from and what transformation rules are required to convert a source value to a target value. Also included in the mappings are the extract criteria from the source systems.

Target to Source Mapping
Defines which fields need to be migrated to the target system, where the data will be sourced from and how the data needs to be transformed.
The target to source mappings for each field typically contains the following information:-
- Target field attributes -length, type (alpha, date, numeric), format
- Whether the field is mandatory, optional or not required
- Where the data will be sourced from - either a legacy field or it will be manually collected by the business
- Transformation type - direct from source, value mapping, default value, a calculated value or a derived value based on rules
Note that the target to source mappings must be based upon the data requirements of the completed and approved target design. The target to source mappings need to be formally approved as they form the basis of the developments in your data migration tool.
Extract Criteria
Defines which records need to be extracted from the source systems and form part of the target to source mappings.
These are also referred to as 'relevancy' rules and need to be defined for every object in scope.
Some objects will have simple rules (e.g. all open AP items), while other such as materials will be a lot more complex.
The extract rules need to be approved by the business and relevancy reports listing the records in scope also need to be approved by the business.
